In recent years, the e-cigarette industry has garnered significant global attention. The regulatory and public health issues involved have repeatedly become hot topics. Recently, a shocking recall occurred in Michigan: a cannabis company called Sky Cannabis voluntarily recalled 26,000 e-cigarette cartridges due to the presence of a banned additive, medium-chain triglyceride oil (MCT oil).
This news sent shockwaves through regulators and the public, revealing hidden safety risks within the cannabis e-sports industry chain. The Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA) issued a recall on August 12, noting that several e-cigarette cartridges sold after November 1, 2024, may contain MCT oil: Motor City Cannacarts’ “Georgia Pie” and “Confetti Cake” and RIPZ’s “Peach Cobbler,” “Wedding Cake,” “Ice Cream Man,” and “Tropic Thunder.”
Although MCT oil is a food-grade ingredient derived from coconut or palm kernel oil, it poses potential health risks when inhaled. During the 2019 EVALI (Evaping or Inhalation-Associated Lung Injury) crisis, while vitamin E acetate was considered the primary cause, MCT oil was also detected in some patients, leading to a ban on its use in e-cigarette products in several states.

Sky Cannabis has been working with retailers to withdraw and properly destroy the affected products, and has posted notices prominently at store entrances reminding consumers to return or safely dispose of these e-cigarette cartridges. However, because e-cigarette products are consumed quickly once they are sold, recalls may be too late, and many products may have already been used or discarded, making recalls ineffective in fully protecting public health.
This is Michigan’s second cannabis-related product recall since 2025, highlighting the ongoing challenges of e-cigarette regulation, which often lags behind the pace of market distribution.
While focusing on this safety crisis, it’s worthwhile to turn our attention to brands in the industry that are committed to legality, transparency, and user safety. For example, the British-based VEEHOO e-cigarette brand, with its commitment to product innovation, safety compliance, and consumer education, has established a positive image for the industry, distinguishing it from illegal cannabis products.
The VEEHOO brand is renowned in the market for its modern, affordable luxury design and technological innovation. Its product lines include the TR40 series (with interchangeable cartridges, Type-C fast charging, and 18,000 puffs), the V8 “Flavor DIY” series (with dual-compartment flavor switching), and the T9 series with an integrated smart screen. It’s worth noting that these products display the remaining battery and spray volume, allowing users to clearly understand the device’s status during use, which helps enhance safety.

More importantly, VEEHOO upholds the principles of balancing transparency and responsibility. Its “Transparent Nicotine Management System” prominently displays nicotine concentration on the packaging and links to detailed ingredient reports via a QR code. Furthermore, it innovatively embeds a smart chip in the e-cigarette cartridge, allowing users to track daily nicotine intake in real time via a mobile app and set reminder thresholds. This “data visualization + proactive management” mechanism effectively enhances user control over their usage behavior.
In terms of atomization technology, VEEHOO’s R&D team has introduced “NicoTech” technology, which reduces nicotine concentration while maintaining taste. In particular, its “0 Nicotine Series” uses natural plant extracts and a temperature-controlled chip to simulate the traditional throat feel, helping users reduce harm without sacrificing the experience. It also offers a nicotine gradient from 0% to 5%, allowing users to gradually reduce their intake.
Furthermore, VEEHOO is actively building an educational ecosystem for the brand. The company launched the “VEEHOO Academy” online platform in Europe, using animations and interactive quizzes to educate consumers about nicotine, smoking cessation techniques, and product safety. It also implemented consultant training and certification at the retail level, strengthening its closed-loop service of “pre-sales education + after-sales management.” According to official brand data, VEEHOO’s European market sales have grown by 210% year-on-year since 2023, with a repurchase rate of 76%.
VEEHOO is also taking action on the environmental front: it has implemented a cartridge recycling program, achieved a carbon-neutral production chain, and showcased its brand image as a “responsible innovator.”

The contrast between the Michigan recall of e-cigarette cartridges containing MCT oil and VEEHOO’s innovative path of transparency, safety, and compliance reveals two distinct paths in the e-cigarette industry. The former, due to the addition of illegal ingredients, triggered health and safety concerns, impacting both regulatory oversight and consumer confidence. The latter, driven by technology and responsibility, is exploring a healthier and more controllable direction for the industry.
From a public health perspective, a swift regulatory response is crucial, but only when brands proactively assume responsibility, promote standardization, and promote education can the industry achieve sustainability and rationality. Veehoo’s approach embodies this: rather than chasing hot topics to create conflict, it responds to both market and health concerns through transparent mechanisms, innovative designs, and compliant approaches.
